Hi there my friends, As many of you know I am a certified Coach and trainer for John Maxwell, and I have to tell you the training changed my life! Over the next few months I will take you on a journey to inspire and add value to your life. Lets start today with the first law, the law of the Lid. Now before we get started I have to tell you that some of the Laws I love and find them easy to apply while others… OH NO! So challenging. BUT when you understand the laws and apply the laws it works. I promise, learn study and apply and magic will occur.
Are you ready lets dip in?
The law of the lid.
Whatever you accomplish will be restricted or propelled by your ability to lead others. This applies to your kids, spouse, dog, team mates and clientele, or even how you lead yourself through a hair cut!! In fact leading ourselves is the hardest of all.
So if everything rises and falls on how we lead our lives. But, how do most people get a leadership position?
Often a person is promoted out of their skill zone. Think of how most people get leadership positions, they’re not selected for their leadership ability they’re often chosen for their technical ability in a certain area. So the best stylist in the team becomes the team leader.
Now that seems to make sense until you realize that leadership is a TOTALLY different skill set, then it’s easy to see what really happens you can lose a good technician and often can gain a bad manager. So a person is promoted out of their skill zone. For example: Great stylist/colorist •
Now has a title but is no longer playing in the strength zone. Moved out of natural gift. Now the company has A new leader and the team are all unhappy. The law of the lid is never more evident than in this scenario because the lack of leadership ability is a serious limit to the productivity of that team.
This is so common, it really is, we see this over and over again.
How many of you know what I’m talking about?
How many of you have ever had a bad boss in the past?
How many of you are sitting beside them right now?
The team could be a talented group of people but their achievements will not rise beyond the leadership lid of the leader.
The potential is there to go higher but the lid caps the potential. WHAT DO WE DO? We have to play to our strengths – work with team strengths and be aware of our limitations (LID) and have a plan to raise our LID.
