Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect during the workshop sessions?
In this very intimate setting, Vivienne Mackinder will personally sit down with you to help understand your learning needs.  Together, you will create a learning path for the week that will help you advance to your next level, as you develop and increase your technical skills as a professional hairdresser.  Each day will begin at 9:00 am and end at 5:00 pm.

Photo Journaling  Seeing your work through the eye of the camera, helps to transform how you see shapes. This is a big part of the Hampton’s training, as the class ratio is small and intimate

How many students are in the workshop?
The training sessions are held with a small group of students – only six students allowed per class. This is a hands on experience with an intimate learning environment. Vivienne will challenge you to go to your next level and become the best hair designer you can be.

Do we use live models or mannequin heads?
Each look is created on a mannequin head. Your work is also “photo journaled”, meaning Vivienne will take pictures of your mannequin heads and practiced styles. You will have the opportunity to take home your images after the workshop, so you can review your work  and recreate the styles on your own.

Additionally, there are hotels close to the workshop. The links are listed below:

What airport do I fly to?
The nearest airport to Vivienne’s studio is the Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISLIP).  This airport is 30 minutes from the studio.  Due to limited flights, you may want to fly into JFK or La Guardia.  These airports are an hour and 20 minutes away from the studio.

Should I rent a car during my stay?
Because the workshop is located in the Hamptons, it is best that you rent a car during your stay.  Please click this link to learn more about the area.

If you are not renting a car, there are other ways to get from NYC to Riverhead.  The Long Island Railroad or the Hampton Jitney Bus are both viable options.

Where is the Hamptons workshop located?
The workshop location is Vivienne’s private studio in the Hamptons. There is no actual address for the studio. However, it would be best for you to program in your GPS: 32 Ann Ave Riverhead, NY 11901 (we are located at the driveway right next to it.) Once you have  arrived to that address you will go just a little past it (same side of the road) and see on the left the grey studio that resembles a barn.

Extend your stay and play?
Should you wish to stay on the property and take some vacation time in the Hamptons (this is an option) check out the link above for the Air BNB information.
